Criticizing Parents Get Involved in Daughter’s Family Life, Her Husband Refuses to Attend Thanksgiving Dinner in Response, Leaving Daughter Torn
Parents absolutely love to get involved in their kids' lives, with the firm belief that they are entitled to that involvement because of who they are. However, while it is reasonable to want to be a part of your children's lives, there has to be a line drawn to keep the peace between everyone in the family.
The one who usually draws the line in the family is the outsider, or in other words, the partner. My husband, for example, is the person who tells my parents when they are stepping over the line, and he also tells me when my parents' "opinions" about our life should no longer be accepted, and I do the same with his family.
It is crucial to be open to your partner's lines and accept them, even if that won't be accepted by your parents, that is simply how relationships work. This is not what happened in this Reddit story when a conflict between a man, his wife, and her parents came to be.
